NEWS is a Japanese idol group under the Talent agency Johnny's & AssociatesNEWS was formed in 2003 with 9 members as special supporters for the Volleyball World Cup.The idea behind NEWS was to bring different groups of popular Johnny's Jrs together and create a group from "each direction" (North, East, West, South).The original line up was: Yamashita Tomohisa, Nishikido Ryo, Uchi Hiroki, Koyama Keiichiro, Kato Shigeaki, Masuda Takahisa, Tegoshi Yuya and Moriuchi Takahiro.They released their first indies single "NEWS NIPPON" on 11.7.2003 and made their Major Debut with "Kibou! YELL" on 5.12.2005In early 2006 NEWS was put on Hiatus due to the consecutive underage drinking scandals by members Kusano Hironori and Uchi Hiroki. However during the 2006-2007 Johnny's New Year Countdown, NEWS returned, now with 6 members until October 2011 when members Yamashita Tomohisa and Nishikido Ryo left the group. NEWS went on another hiatus until 2012 when they returned as 4.The 4 member (Koyama, Kato, Masuda and Tegoshi) is considered by many fans to be the best era of NEWS. NEWS saw the most activity of their career during this era. The relationships between the members also felt very friendly and genuine.In 2017, NEWS released their Album "Neverland" which would be the start of a four album concept project in which the first letter of the next album would spell out "NEWS." Each album had a corresponding concert tour that had a themed concept linked to the others.The Albums are Neverland (2017), Epcotia (2018), Worldista (2019), Story (2020).NEWS was unable to perform the Story concert in Spring 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The status of the concert is currently unkown.In June 2020, Tegoshi Yuya announced that he had left NEWS and Johnny's to pursue a solo career. NEWS would continue as 3 members.Despite the bad luck, the group is treasured by their fans. They have a reputation among the entertainment industry as being talented and good people. NEWS is one of the only artists in Japan to have all of their singles debut at #1 on the Oricon Charts.Their current song "Burn" is being used as the opening song for the the anime "Yashahime"

Tegoshi Yuya>>In June 2020 Tegoshi was put on temporary suspension due to breaking stay at home orders during Japan's COVID-19 State of emergency.>> 19th June 2020 Tegoshi's contract with Johnny's was terminated.>> Tegoshi was planning on leaving after NEWS's Story tour completed, but the tour was canceled. Tegoshi left Johnny's in order to pursue his dreams of being a solo artist and be free from the restrictions of Johnny's.>> He has a Youtube channel, Instagram and Twitter.>>His departure is a sore spot for many NEWS fans as it is the most recent and so many fans adored the 4 member NEWS line up.
